Major Johnson of Owenton, Kentucky, was among the successful aces of the 56th Fighter Group, flying in Europe with the 8th Air Force. He served for a brief period with the 356th Fighter Group and on his return to the 56th, took command of the 63rd squadron. Major Johnson went down on 27 March 1944 and was made a POW. His aircraft was name "In The Mood". The presentation message on the port side read "Jackson County, MichiganFighter". He retired as a Lieutenant General and now lives in Little Rock, Arkansas.
